This weekend, deLab hosted a Haloween-themed screenprinting workshop at NOMAD studio in Frogtown. Screenprinting is something I’d seen, and enjoyed learning about, but I’ve never gotten a chance to get my hands on it. Until now.

I try to work beyond the digital realm when I can, and at NOMAD, there’s no computer screen in sight. What a relief. I always enjoy the cave-painting quality and line work that can be found in screenprinting. It’s human in its inconsistency, and a reminder that computers don’t create art—people do.

It’s definitely something I want to learn more about and delve into further, and with the stellar guidance of owner Damon Robinson and some sweet mask prints on repurposed vinyl album covers the workshop made for a great Saturday and a breath of fresh air from backlit pixels. It was also a reminder that The Creature from the Black Lagoon, as Robinson said, “just doesn’t get enough play.” We even got down and dirty on the vinyls.

Welp, I didnt see this coming.

Mashable reports that 6.5 MILLION LinkedIn password have been leaked. These passwords were shared via a Russian hacker site. The story goes on to state that while passwords are encrypted and “considered to be relatively secure”, this does not make them foolproof.

Word of advice, change your password right now.

Famed designers Stefan Sagmeister and Jessica Walsh have now partnered which mean Sagmeister Inc has now become Sagmeister & Walsh. New name, same great quality work.

Now….. of course because its Sagmesiter, a simple announcement email wont do. I knew that going in.

I legitimately stumbled while I was wandering downtown yesterday. @HousingWorksBks sponsored an Open Air Street Fair on Crosby St. yesterday. The books were cheap and the food trucks were plentiful (Taïm, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Kimchi Taco Truck, and Coolhaus) Other local businesses were on hand to share in the festivities like Pageant Book & Print Shop, Meme’s, even a including a cowboy boot retailer. That last one came out of left field. Overall, cool Sunday find.
